While the brave citizens of Iran continue to strive for freedom and democracy in the face of a tyrannical regime, the release of these funds presents a direct contradiction to the aspirations of the Iranian people and all proponents of liberty around the world. Moreover, this decision risks sending a distorted message to the adversaries of the United States. It suggests that acts of violence against Americans, such as the targeting of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, can be rewarded with financial incentives.
